ON WORLD REFUGEE DAY GMI AND ROCKY MOUNTAIN CALVARY ANNOUNCE MAJOR EVENT DESIGNED TO GO BEYOND THE TENTS
Colorado Springs, CO, June 20, 2020 – World Refugee Day is drawing attention globally to the mounting crisis of refugees. GMI, a mission research organization, and Rocky Mountain Calvary, a Calvary Chapel church located in Colorado Springs, are partnering together to host two strategic events designed to draw attention to the crisis locally in Colorado.
“The world is struggling to respond to the surge of refugees and migrants fleeing war, poverty and trauma. But solutions will only come as people understand the issues and grapple with the challenge in productive ways. These events are designed to do just that,” said Jon Hirst, President and CEO of GMI.
There will be two events held on September 13, 2020 at Rocky Mountain Calvary. The first event will be a Symposium for Leaders titled “Beyond the Tents: Engaging Refugees and Migrants” This event will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is designed for ministry leaders wanting to better engage with refuges through local or international outreach. Speakers will include GMI CEO Jon Hirst speaking about the global trends and data, CCDA Advocacy and Policy Engagement Director Michelle Warren talking about the national immigration and refugee reality, Bridges Advocates Roy and Danika Joshua speaking about the local outreach to Afghan refugees and Lutheran Family Services Director Floyd Preston speaking about the realities of refugee placement in Colorado Springs. RSVP is required by emailing
The evening event is open to the public and will be a collaboration between GMI and Rocky Mountain Calvary to raise awareness about the refugee crisis and provide the public with tangible opportunities to help. This event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run through 8:30 p.m. with local ministries onsite offering outreach opportunities and resources for the community.
