David Nesmith, Director of the Mission Information Directory Service (MIDS), went home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2006, after a brief struggle with cancer.
Born June 28, 1933, Dave’s first career was a 20-year stint in the US Navy. After graduating from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Dave joined the mission agency OC International, serving as part of their research and strategy team.
Dave worked together with researchers from various mission agencies in developing the Research Data Guide, which formed the backbone of the Global Research Database. In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, Dave played key roles in SHARE Fellowship, helping international Christian ministries share strategic research information.
Then God gave Dave a new vision, to provide Christian leaders with personalized access to mission information. So in 1992 he joined GMI to develop MIDS. Dave and his wife Clara continued to operate the MIDS ministry as they moved to Portland, Oregon in 1998, serving with the Foreign Mission Board.
GMI knew Dave as a faithful man of God. Characteristic of a good researcher, Dave was committed to meticulous accuracy and detail, he was an insightful cataloger of information, and always treated others’ data with the utmost care.
Dave Nesmith was a good friend, a devoted brother in Christ, and a faithful colleague for many years. We rejoice in how God used him here on earth, and with his welcome into God’s perfect presence.
