GMI Ministry Connections

Seedbed: an emerging network for an emerging era

THE FACE OF CHRISTIAN mission is changing at an astonishing rate because of:
  • increasing involvement of the non-Western World in mission;
  • the impact of postmodernity inside and outside the church worldwide;
  • the passing of the AD2000 “target”; and
  • the effects of globalization and opposition to it.
  • Many mission workers at both leadership and grass-roots levels are searching for new models for mission and development that will be effective in and beyond this time of flux.

    At the same time, God’s creativity is already being expressed by imaginative innovations in many mission situations, but information about these initiatives is scarce and generally poorly researched.

    To help the global church deal with the challenges of this transitional time, GMI sponsored consultations in London and Chicago earlier this year which led to the formation of the Seedbed network. Seedbed’s mission is to recognize, nurture, and promote the discovery, development, and spread of innovative ideas and practices that will lead to effective Christian mission in the 21st Century.

    The network is taking shape internationally and an introductory website is up (www.seedbed.info), offering an e-newsletter. Several Seedbed projects are already on the drawing boards at GMI and elsewhere. If Seedbed issues loom large in your ministry and you want to help us plant and water God’s ideas, contact Stan Nussbaum, stan@gmi.org, or Peter Stephenson, peter@seedbed.info. As we plant and water, may God give the increase.
