HEADS UP Levels 1-7 The conceptual framework that helps HEADS UP people define themselves and their progress

These seven HEADS UP levels in the table below help participants come out of their confusion and frustration about God's calling. They recognize and understand their current position, they have a way to talk about it with their HEADS UP group, and they can see what to do to improve it.

Self-description

1

Struggling

I was involved but now I am disillusioned, burned out, wounded, and/or feeling like a failure. I am struggling to process what happened before I can even consider another involvement.

2

On hold

Cross-cultural involvement sounds great but it is out of the question for me at this time because of . . . [insert your own reason, such as “my age/health,” “my inexperience,” “spouse not interested,” “my family responsibilities,” “my career,” etc.]

3

Wondering

I wonder whether God might want me to be more directly involved with cross-cultural mission than most people are, but that’s as far as my thinking has gone.

4

Exploring

I think God probably wants me more directly involved and I have a general sense of direction but am not sure what, how, with whom, where, etc.

5

Starting

I am preparing and/or starting to do what I believe may turn out to be my niche.

6

Growing

I have been working in my niche for a while but still have a lot of room to grow. I’m not yet as consistent or productive as I should be.

7

Fruitful

I am getting more productive in my niche, I have at least three good friends deliberately praying for me, and I am staying alert for any changes God wants to make.
