Global Ministry Mapping System (GMMS) Version 10.1 Data Prerelease provides all the latest updates to your GMMS datasets. (GMMS Version 10.1 will release in two parts: a data prerelease available now, and a full release including the new ArcGIS 10.1 software scheduled for 2012.)
Description
All current GMMS users will benefit from this extensive update of the GMMS international datasets and maps - giving you the latest available data.
Two of our largest datasets, among others, have been updated:
- Languages - points, polygons, and attribute information for all the world's languages from Ethnologue: Languages of the World, Sixteenth Edition
- Operation World - Religious and secular demographics for every country from Operation World, Seventh Edition (2010) along with an expanded selection of sample maps derived from Operation World data
Other major features include:
- Updates to province borders and populations, disputed borders, Jesus Film availability, evangelization status of language groups, people group points, and World Factbook data
- Third-level (county) subdivisions of China added with Christian and demographic data
- Omid Peoples, Languages, and Religions of South Asia with new fields of percent of population and population density
- Various other significant updates
What software do I need to access the data?
GMMS 10.1 Data Prerelease requires GMMS 3.3 or ArcView 9.3 or later software. If you have acquired ArcView 10 or 10.1 by other means, GMMS data, layer files, and sample maps will work, but not menus and wizards.
If you have GMMS version 3.2 or earlier, you can easily upgrade to your software to take advantage of this major new data upgrade. GMMS features include:
- ArcView Version 9.3.1 software from ESRI
- Digital Chart of the World – a highly-detailed digital basemap
- An expanded set of populated places
- Omid Peoples, Languages, and Religions of South Asia with district-level mapping and population statistics
- ESRI Data and Maps - nearly 20 GB of additional GIS data including detailed terrain and elevation datasets, satellite imagery, and more

Ordering Information
Our intention is that the combined cost of updating data now and software later will be about the same (except for shipping costs) as a normal GMMS major version upgrade.
