Operation China CD-ROM
Purpose
and Use
"Think of the state
of these unsaved ones and solemnly examine yourself in the sight of God
to see
whether you are doing your utmost to make Him known to them."
J. Hudson
Taylor, Founder of the China Inland Mission
Operation China
was written:
- To introduce China's "hidden" minority
groups - groups and cultures as diverse as the pale, blue-eyed Muslims of
Xinjiang and the tribal people of the jungles of Yunnan with their intricately
embroidered costumes, the Tibetans in the west, proud of their fascinating heritage,
and the nomadic hunter tribes, related to the Eskimos, in the extreme northeast
of this vast country. Although numerically the minorities of China account for
only 6.7 of China's population, they inhabit 62.5% of China's territory.
- To
inform and enlighten Christians about the more than 400 "unreached"
people groups of China. The AD2000 Movement defined the difference between "reached"
and "unreached" by saying a group may be considered statistically reached
if it contains more than 5% adherents to any form of Christianity, including 2%
adherents to evangelical Christianity. Using this guideline, of the 490 groups
profiled in Operation China, a mere 52 groups could be considered "reached".
Although the revival of Christianity in eastern and southeastern China has resulted
in millions of conversions among the Han Chinese, most of western and northern
China remains in complete spiritual darkness without a glimmer of gospel light.
Many of the people groups profiled in Operation China have no known believers
in their midst. Some could be considered completely unevangelized - that is, 100%
of the population has never yet heard anything of the gospel and is unaware of
the Person of Jesus Christ.
- To mobilize for evangelization - It
is the author's hope that readers will gain a burden for the condition of China's
unreached peoples and, through Operation China, will gain a searing realization
that they truly are precious in God's sight, that many Christians may be spurred
on to pray for and give their time, talents, energy, resources and lives to do
whatever is necessary for all China's peoples to have access to the saving grace
and the indwelling life of Jesus Christ.
- To enable strategic missions
planning, prayer and action.
Operation China CD-ROM
will benefit college and seminary professors, libraries, mission supporters, Christian
broadcasters, Bible translators, churches and prayer groups.
